Exploring the Path to Spiritual Healing with Crystals and Tarot

In moments of deep pain or uncertainty, we often seek something greater, something sacred, to guide us home to ourselves. That’s where the ancient tools of crystals and tarot come in. Together, they form a mystical bridge between the physical and the spiritual, helping us heal, grow, and remember our inner power.

Crystals: Earth’s Healing Frequencies

Crystals are more than just beautiful stones, they are vibrational allies that hold wisdom from the Earth. Each crystal resonates with a unique energy that supports emotional release, spiritual clarity, and energetic balance.

How Crystals Support Healing

Crystals support healing in a variety of ways. One way is by helping you to amplify intentions. You can use them during rituals, meditation, and with affirmations to help amplify the energy of your intent. Keeping crystals on or with you as a talisman to remind you of your intent is powerful way to use them. They are also great for cleansing energy, be that of you or the energy of your home. Certain crystals, like selenite and clear quartz, are great for cleansing and purifying the surrounding energy. Other crystals, such as black tourmaline and smokey quartz are great for absorbing and transmuting negative energy. Another way crystals can be used is for chakra alignment. While there are many more chakras, there are 7 main chakras that are focused on in energy healing that start at the perineum and go up to the crown of your head. Each chakra has a color associated with it and crystals of that color resonate with that chakra’s energy to help clear blockages and bring it into balance.

Popular Crystals and Their Properties

You can use all crystals and gemstones for healing work, but there are some that are used more than others. Clear Quartz is one of the most popular to use being known as “The Master Healer”. Clear Quartz amplifies the energies of other crystals, it’s also often used in place of crystals for specific rituals if you don’t have the crystal needed on hand, and it works on all the chakras. That being said, that’s just one crystal of many. Here, we’ll go over a few to give you an idea.

  • Amethyst – Amethyst is known to calm the mind, deepen intuition, and for developing spiritual awareness. Physically it’s known to help with anxiety, headaches, and insomnia. It’s also known as the “stone of sobriety” helping those battling with addiction. Amethyst works with the third eye and crown chakras.
  • Rose Quartz – Rose Quartz is a crystal known for its gentle loving energy. It’s known as the “love stone” and helps promote emotional balance, self-love, and compassion. Physically, rose quartz is said to promote circulation, improved skin health, cardiovascular health, and stress reduction. Rose quartz is associated with the heart chakra.
  • Smokey Quartz – Smokey Quartz is known for being grounding, protective, and transformative. This crystal is often used to dispel negative emotions, help with transitions, and letting go of old patterns. Physically it’s known to help with headaches, back pain, muscle spasms, and chronic pain. Smokey quartz is associated with the root, sacral, and solar plexus chakras.
  • Black Tourmaline – Known for its protective qualities, black tourmaline acts as a shield against negative energy and electromagnetic radiation. It’s used mostly for its grounding properties and protective properties and is often used to ward off the “evil eye”. Physically, black tourmaline is known to help circulation, boost metabolism, and ease muscle aches and pain. Black tourmaline is associated with the root chakra

Tarot Cards: A tool for self reflection

Most people think of tarot as something you use to try to predict the future, but tarot is actually one of the most powerful tools to help you tap into your subconscious mind. Each card has symbolic imagery and tells a story that you can interpret in many different ways, depending on what’s going on internally. When you pull a set of cards it will tell a story that reveals what’s unfolding in your life on a deeper level.

The Major Arcana

In a standard tarot deck, there are 22 cards known as the major arcana, which represents significant life events, life lessons, karmic influences and archetypal themes. It begins with the number 0 (The Fool) and ends with card 21 (The World). It is often seen as a story of The Fool’s Journey, starting with the naive innocent fool and each card following represents challenges and progression along the way until it reaches fulfillment of the specific quest.

The Minor Arcana

In a standard deck there are 56 cards known as the minor arcana. These represent daily events, short-term situations, and the more mundane aspects of life. Pulling these cards symbolizes something you may be going through in the moment, but won’t last long or make a significant impact on your life. They are divided into four suits: Wands (fire and creativity), Cups (water and emotions), Swords (air and intellect), and Pentacles (earth and material matters). Each suit contains 10 numbered cards and 4 court cards (Page, Knight, Queen, and King). Let’s take a look at the four suits and their meanings.

  • Wands – Wands is the suit that corresponds with the element of fire and represents creativity and energy. This is often associated with passion, ambition, and motivation. When wands show up in a tarot reading, they usually are about your life purpose, new ideas, and spirituality.
  • Cups – Cups is the suit that corresponds with the element of water and represents emotions and creativity. This suit is often associated with intuition, relationships, and your emotional connection with yourself and others.
  • Swords – Swords corresponds with the element of air and represents the intellect and communication. This is often associated with communicating your ideas, making decisions, and being assertive. When swords show up in a reading, there’s usually an idea or thought process that needs attention.
  • Pentacles – Pentacles corresponds with the earth element and represents the physical and material world. This suit is often associated with your possessions and your finances. When pentacles show up in a reading, it’s usually talking about work/career, money matters, or physical health.
Court Cards

Court cards are often seen as some of the most complex and confusing card to interpret because there’s so many different ways to interpret them. They can be referring to a specific person in your life, a situation, level of maturity, a part of yourself, and more. Here I’m going to give a brief overview of each of the court cards.

  • Page – The Page card represents curiosity, enthusiasm, and a fresh perspective. The Page is the student and the seeker, excited to learn and find new knowledge. The page has the ideas, but is not quite ready to take action. From a maturity perspective, this is the youngest of the court cards. You can view the Page as the child which can represent naivety and immaturity.
  • Knight – The Knight card represents action, adventure, and dynamic energy. The Knight is a mover and a shaker. He has acquired a certain amount of information and knowledge and is ready to take action. The knight may be ready for that forward momentum, but can often act on impulse before having all the information needed. From a maturity perspective, this is the young adult that has learned from their studies and are ready to experience life. This can represent impulsivity, purpose, drive, and action.
  • Queen – The Queen card represents leadership, creativity, and emotional intelligence. The Queen has been through the journey of learning from experience and now leads with the King. But she tends to lead from a place of creativity and trusts in her intuition to guide her. She has motherly qualities being able to nurture and protect those who follow her lead. From a maturity perspective, Queens are between the ages 30-50, and represent wisdom, influence, creativity, and security.
  • King – The King card represents authority, leadership, and stability. The King has reached the pinnacle of the experience. Kings have full control over their feelings, emotions, thoughts, and actions. They are the father figure of the deck and symbolize authority. They have laid a solid foundation and provide stability. The Kings have seen their ideas through and have brought them to fruition. When a King shows up in a reading it symbolizes authority, manifestation, leadership, and mastery.

*It’s important to note that, when reading these cards, it may not be talking about a specific gender, rather it’s talking about feminine and masculine energies that we all have.

Using Crystals and Tarot Together

Using crystals with your tarot cards isn’t something that has to be done, but often is. One practice is to energetically charge your deck by placing a crystal that matches the deck’s energy. For instance, I have a deck I use specifically for shadow work and I place a smokey quartz on this deck to charge it. The other thing you can do with your crystals and tarot is to hold the deck’s crystal in your hand if you’re confused while reading. This is a way to anchor into the energy to help bring some clarity. Another thing that is commonly done is holding a crystal that corresponds to your intent for the reading and meditate with it for a few minutes before starting the reading. This helps to clear out energetic clutter you may be carrying so the reading doesn’t seem quite as scattered which can lead to confusion.

Below is a simple ritual you can try

What you’ll need:

  • A tarot deck
  • Crystals to select from
  • A quiet place
  • A journal

Step 1: Set an intention:
Ask yourself: “What am I ready to heal? What clarity am I seeking?”

Step 2: Choose your crystal(s):
Let your intuition be your guide. This will help you understand what aspect of you is needed attention. For instance,

  • Amethyst for anxiety and addiction
  • Rose Quartz for self-love and wounds of the heart
  • Sodalite for poor communication and racing thoughts

Step 3: Short meditation
Hold your crystal in your hand while you close your eyes and take in a few deep breaths. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. Imagine the color of the crystal expanding in a sphere of light until it’s big enough to surround you.

Step 4: Pull 1-3 tarot cards
Asks questions like:

  • “What does my higher self want me to know at this time?”
  • “What energy is ready to be released?”
  • “How can I move forward in my power?”

Step 5: Reflect
Write down what you see, feel, and sense. Pay attention to the imagery of the card and what part(s) stood out to you. Maybe it was a bird that stood out. What does a bird symbolize to you? Write all that down. Let the cards and crystals speak through your intuition.

Step 6: Close with gratitude
Hold your crystal, thank your guides, and affirm
“I trust the wisdom of my soul. I am healing. I am whole.”
